Orange County Cows 2

Random Musings

Hello from the artist, who has officially come out of hiding. I apologize for my absence and for the lack of Christmas postings, Randomites. Trying to draw and colourize with only one working eye has been a challenge. I was able to roll out the current comic by taking advantage of my good days of vision (which have been few and far between). I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of my visitors so far and would like to extend a warm welcome to any new viewers. As you can see, the crazy Dairy Cows of Orange County are back. I don't even need to watch the show in order to be supplied with ideas for the comics. I need only watch the commercials! I hope you enjoy this brand new posting and I hope to be back posting more regularly.

Greetings, Randomites. Wow, 'Random Musing' number six already. Random Acts has [hopefully] been making you laugh for 4 months and my plan is to keep 'em coming . I hope you are enjoying our little web area of giggle (or groan). Today's post was inspired by all of those commercials of the 1980's and 1990's, advertising everything from pain relievers to well, toothpaste. I always wondered who that fifth dentist or that fourth physician was who went against the grain and preferred a different product. I am not certain that this advertising scheme really convinced people to buy the particular product being peddled. I, for one, would think that the statistic of 5 out of 5 whoever(s), be it a pharmacist or a soft-drink taste-tester would be far more effective in increasing sales. As a consumer, would you not prefer the product that received the perfect score? Anyway, today's cartoon is suggestive of how a company might attain that 100% endorsement. I always thought as a kid and even now as an adult (as the occasional commercial like the above does pop up every once in a while), 'Man, I would not want to be that 5th dentist'. Today's random act confirms why. Do you have a musing that you would like to share about this topic? Contact us! We would love to hear your thoughts! M&J

Happy Halloween everyone! I worked extra hard this week to bring this Halloween-themed Random Act to you in time for the big night. It was a challenge to colourize it amid the goings-on of ‘life’. I have never been a big fan of Halloween; the challenge of trying to find the best costume to out-shine your class-mates (when you’re a kid) and your co-workers (when you’re an adult) and win first prize. The ‘webmaster’ and I are opting out of handing out candy to little ghosties and goblins, simply because the doorbell ring drives our two excitable pugs crazy. Having those two barking, flat-faced creatures charging at you when you’re at the front door, is enough to scare away any treak-or-treater. I don’t want to be considered anti-Halloween, so I would like to wish everyone a fun evening. [oh, and don’t eat too much candy ;)]

Here is the newest post on ‘Random Acts’. Hopefully this will be the first in a series, if the creative juices remain well-stocked. Lately with a full-time job added to the plate, creativity has felt like it evaporated. I am reluctant to admit that I have actually viewed an episode of the ‘Real Housewives’. May I stress the word ‘an’ as in one ONLY! I actually felt somewhat sorry for these wealthy ladies. Especially for the one whose husband ‘forgets’ to wear his wedding band to a private fashion show, only to attempt to pick up someone half his wife’s age. She catches him in the act, though. I guess the message I gleaned from this show was although money can buy you fast cars, beautiful clothes and one’s choice of plastic surgery procedures, it cannot buy you faithful husbands or true love. Hopefully our cows are not in the same ‘pasture’ as their human counterparts. If you like this first post, give us a shout-out in the comments section. We would love to hear from you!

Hey there again, Randomites,

Something is fishy at ‘Random Acts of Funny’. Here is the latest comic to hit the site. I have been on a 3 week hiatus, trying to get this comic posted. Going back to work full time has presented a challenge to keep things fresh on Random Acts. I would like to thank our regular site visitors for their patience.

I guess this comic was inspired in part by my own ‘school’ of goldfish. What started out as a baker‘s dozen of fish in a 20 gallon tank over six years ago, has dwindled to three very large fish and one shy algae eater. I thought that goldfish were supposed to be relatively disposable; they usually die as soon as you get them home. This was the unfortunate case for a few of the ‘unlucky’ 13. The remaining 4 just refuse to die. I think I will be feeding them and changing their water and filter for the rest of my life. Well, as long as they are still around, they will receive great care, just like the other pets in the house.

The fish in the picture most resembles the largest of the ‘Fantastic Four’. He is probably about four inches long; a rather impressive size. After six years in his aquatic home, he finally was deserving of a name. I called him ‘Darwin’. I figure any goldfish who can live that long IS the embodiment of Darwin‘s survival of the fittest.

Welcome to the third installment of Random Musings. A delay was experienced with this latest ‘Act’, entitled ‘Crop Circles’. An unbelievable amount of time was required to colorize this one. I watched a documentary earlier this year about this very subject. I learned that, although the majority of crop circles are hoaxes, there are a number of circles that cannot be explained. The hoaxes are created by individuals or groups, simply for arts‘ sake. The small numbers of unexplained circles are studied by actual experts in the field [no pun intended]. I gathered that what distinguishes one as a crop circle expert is being able to tell the difference. All the circles shown in the documentary looked similar to me. While watching, I could not help but think of the series of Reese‘s Peanut Butter Cup commercials that aired in the 1990‘s. Who could forget the nerdy and socially inept circle researcher, Rory Tate? Somehow I don‘t believe that giant flying candy is responsible for the small number of ‘unexplained’ circles. Having grown up in an agricultural area, I remember craning my neck out the car window, eager to catch a glimpse of any evidence of these unique formations. I was, however, consistently disappointed. I guess rural South-Eastern Ontario, Canada is not a popular venue for either artists or aliens or whatever makes them.

Hope you enjoy the post!
